Hi friends. We’re going to bet 7.5 points today. This is both exciting and surprising in equal measure. Surprising because If I could bet on which month of the season I’d advise the fewest bets on TLS I’d probably be willing to take about 6/4 January in any given season. In this column at this time last year, I wrote:

“I think it’s worth mentioning this is also a time where there’s probably the least value there’s been in any week so far this season in title, promotion and relegation markets. That will definitely change again in the coming weeks but right now, as the transfer window is about to shut and we deal with the uncertainty some squad changes bring, I wouldn’t be having a single bet in the main markets in any league.”

“For me, one of the big skills in season-long betting is knowing when to be aggressive and when to back off a little. When, in months gone by, I’ve rocked up with 10 or 11 points total stakes it was because I made that a great time to get stuck in. So I make no apology for doing the opposite now when value is thinner on the ground.”

Although I stand by those words, this season is atypical for some reason and it comes as a pleasant surprise that there are several decent bets for us to get stuck into today.
