Welcome to Searching for Szmod: Part Three

In Part One, I settled on a pre-season trixie including Josh Sargent, Aaron Collins and Callum Hendry. Norwich, Bolton and MK Dons are all in the top six of their division for goals scored, but our selected players have only scored 4, 1 and 2 goals respectively. We’re unlikely to pay for the summer with that one.

In Part Two, George threw some darts at the League One market, reasoning that the skinny prices of Birmingham’s Alfie May and Jay Stansfield made it ripe for some value. Stansfield and May are both five goals off the top, while two wide forwards - Kwame Poku and Louie Barry - lead the charts on 10 each, followed by 15 players between 8 and 5 goals. We’ve got two players from Part Two amongst that chunk - Will Evans on 5 (@ 50/1) and Kyle Wootton (@ 25/1) on 6. Paul Mullin, Callum Marshall and Dom Ballard have only four goals between them - Ballard’s xG per 90 of 0.70 being matched by 0.19 goals per 90 is tough to take.

Here’s a snapshot of the three Golden Boot races.

In the Championship, Josh Maja set the early pace, followed by saucy Spanish Borja Sainz flying into contention with 11 in 13 games off the left of Norwich’s attack. Haji Wright is lurking, Joel Piroe is ticking along despite starting less than half of Leeds’ games, while Bayo and Cannon’s six-goal tallies are helped by both having scored four in a game.

In League One, Kwame Poku and Louie Barry lead the way, then there are 15 players between 8 and 5 goals.

In League Two, there are also 15 players between 8 goals and 5 goals. They’re led by former Golden Boot winner Andy Cook, whose durability continues to amaze.

In Part Three, I’ve got my eye on an each-way double that should see us retain an interest right until the final weeks of the season… but wait ———

🚨🚨🚨 THAT’S GEORGE ELEK’S MUSIC!
