[S1:E1] Return of the 'King EFL
Three picks to rule them all from George Elek, Ali Maxwell and Nick Goff.
George Elek
Morning all, and welcome to The Long Shot: a weekly newsletter about long range betting in the EFL. This is our first “season”. This is our first “episode”. And I’m feeling more than a little excited to get cracking. If you are a listener to the NTT20 Betting Show, then you might have heard a little bit about TLS already. Either way, we’ve typed up a little explainer so you can find out more about what to expect.
So what’s in store? Well… Ali Maxwell, Nick Goff and I will be honing in on EFL season-long markets and seeking out the most value. As the long part of the name suggests, we’ll be posting bets that settle at the end of the season and we’ll be using the prices from major or high-street bookmakers only. These are picks you will not hear on the NTT20 Betting Show. That’s the gist. (I should point out that this newsletter is for paid subs only; it costs around a fiver a week, and of course, when the season ends, billing is paused until next season, you won’t be charged).
Future episodes will feature one selection from one of us, with Nick featuring once a month. But given this is our opening gambit, we thought we might do something a bit special, a bit fun. So for one night only, we’ve each made a pick. Shall we get to it?
Over the season, bookmakers re-price the core ante-post markets (your outright winner, promotion and relegation), and that gives us a chance to revise our opinion and have another bet. However, the slightly more obscure markets — those available to us now — expire as soon as a ball is kicked, so you get one chance to get on those. And now is the time.
